  • Yes, tattoos do involve some level of discomfort since a needle is placing ink into the skin, but the level of pain depends on each person’s tolerance and the placement of the tattoo. Areas with more muscle or flesh, like the upper arm or thigh, usually feel easier than spots over bone, like ribs or ankles. Most clients describe the feeling as more of a scratch or vibration than sharp pain, and it’s often very manageable. At Truth & Triumph Tattoo, our artists make sure you’re as comfortable as possible, taking breaks when needed, working at your pace, and guiding you through the whole process.

  • Absolutely. It’s common for people to feel nervous about needles, and some even worry about fainting. Our artists take this seriously and work to create a calm, supportive environment. Eating a good meal beforehand, staying hydrated, and taking deep breaths during the session can help a lot. If you feel lightheaded, we’ll pause and give you time to recover. Many clients who start out nervous are surprised at how manageable the process feels once they get going.

  • When done in a licensed, professional studio like Truth & Triumph Tattoo, tattoos are very safe. We use single-use, sterile needles and high-quality inks, and every workstation is cleaned and set up to meet strict health standards.

That said, like any procedure that breaks the skin, there are small risks. These can include minor irritation, redness, or infection if aftercare isn’t followed properly. Allergic reactions to tattoo ink are rare, but they can happen—most often with certain pigments like bright reds or yellows. If you’ve ever had skin allergies, let your artist know so we can talk through options and keep you comfortable. Following the aftercare instructions we provide will go a long way in keeping your tattoo safe and healing smoothly.

  • Tattoo inks in the U.S. are regulated by the FDA as cosmetics, and while oversight is limited, professional studios like Truth & Triumph Tattoo only use trusted brands that meet safety standards. Our inks are purchased from reputable suppliers and are designed specifically for tattooing.

As for sterilization, every needle is single-use and disposed of immediately after your session. All surfaces and equipment are disinfected before and after each client, and artists set up fresh barriers, gloves, and supplies every time. These practices keep the process safe and sanitary so you can focus on enjoying your new tattoo.

  • You’re not alone. Many people know they want a tattoo but aren’t sure what design feels right. Our artists can help guide you through the process. You can start by browsing flash on the walls during Walk-In Weekends, checking out artist portfolios, or even bringing in ideas, symbols, or styles that catch your eye. Sometimes the best tattoos come from trusting your artist’s creativity. We’ll talk through your options and make sure whatever you choose feels like the right fit for you.

  • It’s always a good idea to ask questions before getting tattooed. A few helpful ones include:

    • How long have you been tattooing this style?

    • Can I see examples of similar work you’ve done?

    • What do you recommend for placement and size?

    • What type of ink and needles do you use?

    • What aftercare steps do you suggest for the best healing?

Asking these shows you care about the process and helps your artist give you the best experience possible.

  • Get a good night’s rest, eat a solid meal beforehand, and stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol or blood thinners before your session. Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area you’re getting tattooed.

  • Most tattoos take about two to four weeks to fully heal on the surface, though deeper layers of skin continue repairing for a few months. Following proper aftercare is key to healing smoothly.

  • Yes. Whether it’s a sketch, photo, or just an idea, artists are happy to work with you. They’ll refine your concept to make sure it works well as a tattoo and fits your style and placement.

  • Walk-ins are always welcome when there’s time, but Truth & Triumph is known for Walk-In Weekends every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That’s when both shops set aside dedicated time for spontaneous tattoos.

  • Flash tattoos are pre-drawn designs you can choose on the spot, perfect for walk-ins. Custom tattoos are designed specifically for you, often requiring a consultation and appointment. Both options are available at the shop.

  • Yes, all tattoos age, but placement, ink quality, and aftercare play a big role in how they hold up. Using sunscreen, following aftercare, and choosing an experienced artist all help your tattoo stay sharp for years to come.

  • Mild redness and scabbing are normal, but if you notice spreading redness, unusual swelling, or discharge, it’s best to contact your artist and a healthcare professional. Early care makes all the difference.
